Jim Crowley Previews Weekend Rides At Haydock And Deauville

Coral ambassador Jim Crowley has four rides at Haydock on Saturday and one in France on Sunday when he is on board Minzaal at Deauville.

Saturday

1.50 Haydock – My Mate Ted

I don’t know much about this horse. He’s had three runs so far. He ran well on his debut, finishing second at Newbury over 1m. He stepped up in distance last time to 1m2f and it looked as though he didn’t quite get the trip. The drop back down to 1m should help. It is a competitive race and hopefully we will be in the mix at the finish.

3.00 Haydock – Anmaat

He won the John Smith’s Cup at York last time out, coming out on top in a big field on the Knavesmire. He is now taking on Group Three company for the first time, but we think he has the class. Grocer Jack was impressive at Newbury on his latest appearance, so he looks the one to beat. I am really looking forward to riding my horse in the feature race of the day at Haydock.

3.35 Haydock – Floral Splendour

She won first time out at Haydock over 7f in what wasn’t a strong race. This is a big step up in class for her, but she is unexposed. We may find out exactly how good she is after this race. Oscula sets the standard, but that’s not to say we can’t get the better of her.

4.10 Haydock – Playday

This filly broke her maiden at Leicester over 1m2f last month. She made all in that race and kept on strongly at the finish. The handicapper has put her up 4lb, but that still gives her a good chance of successfully following up. I expect her to go close at the very least.

Sunday

2.55 Deauville – Minzaal

I really looking forward to travelling out to France on Sunday to ride Minzaal in the Group One Prix Maurice de Gheest. He won the Group Three Hackwood Stakes at Newbury on his latest appearance.

Jim Crowley, Minzaal

We are obviously stepping up in class here and taking on some good horses, but we think he has the ability. Owen (Burrows) would not be sending him across for this assignment if he did not believe he could be in the mix.
