Jim Crowley On Weekend Rides And Royal Ascot

Jim Crowley, blog, horse racing

Jim Crowley gives us the lowdown on his rides at York and Doncaster this weekend. He also looks ahead to an exciting week at Royal Ascot.

Saturday

3.40 York – Watchya

Watchya is my only ride of the day on Saturday which is disappointing. I had a few others prior to the final declaration stage, but unfortunately they were withdrawn. Hopefully my only ride of the day is a winning one

He won nicely last time out at Lingfield where he bounced back from a disappointing effort at Ascot. Obviously his two victories have come on the AW, however, he does have some decent form on turf, most notably his second-place finish at Haydock.

I think he is a progressive horse, so hopefully we see him take another step forward here in what is a very competitive handicap contest.

Sunday

2.47 Doncaster – Laasudood

He is a nice horse who I like a lot. I was on board when he broke his maiden at Kempton last season. He then ran well behind Secret State at Kempton last month. That form is likely to be boosted in the future.

All the reports from his yard are positive. I’d be very disappointed if this horse did not win.

Royal Ascot next week

I can’t wait to ride Baaeed in the Queen Anne Stakes next week. Obviously it is the first race of the week, so fingers crossed he can get me off to a great start to the meeting.

He was very impressive in the Lockinge Stakes at Newbury, and I will be hoping for more of the same. There is clearly pressure on our shoulders, as we are expected to win, but I am sure he can handle that. He is my highlight of the week.

Shadwell go into the meeting with a much smaller team this year, but they have a good chance in their respective races.
