England Women v Germany Women betting tips, odds and preview

The UEFA Women’s Euro 22 final promises to be a thriller at a sold-out Wembley and we have studied the odds to pick out some England Women v Germany Women betting tips.

Both teams have reached the final in stunning fashion and the final promises to be a fitting end to an entertaining tournament.

Sunday’s match at Wembley kicks off at 5pm and is live on the BBC.

England eye February repeat

The two finalists look well matched based on their performances at Euro 2022 but have contrasting pedigrees at the Euros.

England are preparing for their first European Championship final since 2009 thanks to a stunning 4-0 win over Sweden at Bramall Lane.

Beth Mead, England Women, football

Germany, on the other hand, are preparing for a ninth European final thanks to their 2-1 victory over France and have never been beaten at this stage of the tournament.

England look a much-improved team under Sarina Wiegman though and are the 7/10 favourites to lift the trophy for the first time while Germany are 21/20 to get their hands on the prize once again.

The Lionesses came out on top when the teams met in February this year and we’re backing them to do so again in our England Women v Germany Women betting tips.

England Women v Germany Women: Past meetings

The most recent meeting came at Molineux when England lifted the Arnold Clark Cup after late goals from Millie Bright and Fran Kirby secured a 3-1 victory.

The Lionesses took the lead when record scorer Ellen White buried her 49th England goal, before Germany hit back before half-time through Lina Magull’s free-kick.

Bright put the hosts back in front with six minutes remaining, pouncing after Lauren Hemp’s shot was blocked, and Kirby sealed the win in stoppage time.

The previous meeting at Wembley was in November 2019 when Klara Buhl’s late winner ensured Germany spoiled the party in front of a record-breaking crowd of 77,768.

White had hauled England level after Alexandra Popp headed an eighth-minute opener but Buhl’s low shot beat Mary Earps in the 90th minute to condemn Phil Neville’s side to a fifth defeat in seven matches.

Where the game could be won or lost

Germany had not conceded at this tournament until an own goal just before half-time in their semi-final handed France an equaliser.

Up front, Popp has been ruthless and made the most of the chances that have come her way and her double against France mean she is level on six goals with England’s Beth Mead so the battle for the Golden Boot adds an extra edge to the game.

Popp is 21/10 to add to her tally in the final while Mead is a similar price at 23/10.

England’s defensive rock Millie Bright has enjoyed a stellar tournament, but will need all that nullifying nous once again at Wembley.

Popp’s canny movement in the box will doubtless cause England problems in the final for the ever-smart Germans. And Bright versus Popp certainly whets the appetite in the build-up to Sunday’s silverware showdown.

Alexandra Popp, Germany Women

The one factor that could give England the edge is their options off the bench. While White will almost certainly lead the line again from the start, she has made way for Alessia Russo in every game and the electric 23-year-old has shone in the role of impact substitute.

She assisted England’s most crucial goal of the tournament so far – Ella Toone’s late equaliser to force extra-time in the quarter-final win over Spain – before taking her own tally to four with an impish back heel against the Swedes.

As legs start to tire late on at Wembley, she has the potential to be the hero again and appeals at 5/1 to score the last goal of the match.

Looking at the England Women v Germany Women odds, we also like 21/5 for the Lionesses to win in 90 minutes after a drawn first half.

For correct-score backers, a 2-1 England victory at 8/1 completes our predictions.
